We’re serving up some balance changes in this Server-Side Patch! To help keep the meta fresh, we’re making tweaks to some of the top-performing civilizations. In this patch, you’ll find that it will take more time to build walls and defensive structures, a few adjustments to the Chinese civilization, and other balance changes to the Malians and Mongol civilizations. Read on to learn more!

Download on the Microsoft Store

Remember that you’ll need to update your game in the Microsoft Store:

Open the Microsoft Store.
Click the [∙ ∙ ∙ ] symbol next to your profile picture.
Select Downloads and updates.
Press the Get updates button to automatically detect, download, and install the latest changes to your game!
Open the game. The title screen should show you on Build 5.1.148.1.

If you are unable to launch the game after downloading the update, make sure you add (or re-add) the Age of Empires IV client or folder as an exception to your firewall and antivirus program.

That’s it; you’re ready to play!

Open Steam.
Click on Library to see your games list.
Click Downloads at the bottom of the Library window.
[If the new build does not download automatically,] click the Download Now button to manually download the new update.

Remember that you’ll need to update your game in the Xbox App for Windows.

Open the Xbox app.
Games that are installed show up on the left side of the app.
Hover over the game or click it, and then select Update.
[If the new build does not download automatically,] hover over the game, select More Options (…), choose Manage. Under the Files tab, choose the option to Check for Updates.
Open the game. The title screen should show you on Build 5.1.148.1.

That’s it; you’re ready to play!

NOTE: After this update, you will no longer be able to utilize replays and saves from previous updates. While we do our best effort to minimize impact on saves, Campaign and Skirmish saves from the previous patch are impacted and will no longer be accessible after you update. Campaign progress will NOT be lost with this patch update.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition – Update 73855

Come jump into another exciting release with some bug fixes and balance changes, plus an awesome new event for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition!

With this small update, we’re also bringing the Frosty Friends from the North Event! It’s Winter again and all units, from Viking Berserks to Bengalis Rathas, are enjoying the snow and fresh air from the North. Grab your coats and scarves – it’s frosty out there!

While there are plenty of notable fixes and features to which to look forward to today, here’s some of the big highlights coming with this month’s update:

A new type of event is happening now – a mini event called Tons O’ Toys! Now, December 6 through January 12, unlock these fun holiday-themed rewards with all your friends and get into the holiday spirit!

Challenge	How to Unlock Reward
So Cute	🔒 Produce 20 Sheep from Pastures. 🏆 Unlocks a profile portrait of a sheep plush.
Do It Fast	🔒 Defeat the Polish army before the Bohemian army arrives in the Battle of Liegnitz mission. 🧱 Unlocks a Coat of Arms laurel banner shape.
Up Close	🔒 Defeat units with only melee units and win a Multiplayer or Skirmish match. 🧱 Unlocks a banner sigil of a wooden practice sword.
Just Gatherer	🔒 Win a 2v2 Quick Match without using Gaia as a food source. 🏆 Unlocks a balloon animal profile portrait of a deer.
Protect Them All	🔒 Achieve a Sacred Victory with another player against Intermediate A.I. in a 2v2 Custom match on King of the Hill. 🧱 Unlocks a monument made of a pile of presents.

The first minor patch of Season Three, is LIVE! In this patch, we’re making some balance changes to Forest Ponds, Hideout, and Waterholes according to your feedback from our Season Three Public Update Preview, plus you’ll see some new UI improvements, and you’ll also see better general stability and performance of the game! Thia time, we’re mixing up the Season Three Map Pool, we’re giving some visual updates to the unit healthbar settings, as well as more balance work on the Malian and Ottoman Civilizations.
